Do Now

The arts ignite my desire to help make the world a better place.  This could be any art: Dancing, Singing, Acting, etc.  It allows people to express feelings and show off beautiful works.  They also provide hobbies for many people, so instead of people getting into trouble they could immerse themselves in the arts.  Also different works can raise awareness for different causes.  For example; this year at The Vibe XX Dance Competition, A crew named Cookies took the first place spot.  Their choreography brought awareness to the increasing number of orphaned children around the world.

Last year Rachio, came out with the newest "smart sprinkler".  Instead of hooking up to a control box the sprinkler hooks up to wifi.  Then they can be controlled by smartphones and tablets.  With new updates the sprinkler saves even more water.  The control center on your device can tell if its going to rain or has already rained, this prevents the system from wasting water.  This system can save someone up to 30% in water bills.

Pizza Hut has created a brand new app for their customers.  No one will ever have to say the words "Where's my pizza?" again.  Creators call this new app the 'Pizza Navigation System'.  It will give people the ability to track the location of their delivery persons vehicle.  It also displays a picture of the delivery guy or girl, so you know who to expect at the door.

New Class

I would like to add a photography class to our school curriculum.  The class would learn about different types of cameras, lenses, and editing softwares and techniques.  The students would take lots of different pictures and display their works to the class. They would also explain to their classmates how they took and edited their pictures.
The class would be an elective choice for students when making their schedules.  We would go on many field trips to different places to take pictures.  Students could also contribute many new ideas for lesson plans and so on.  This class would be a great addition to our curriculum.

Tattooed wrists can prevent the Apple Watch from functioning properly.  According to some customers the watch's heart rate sensor does not work on their tattooed wrists.  The heart rate sensor determines whether or not you're wearing it.  Because of this issue you might not be able to use Apple play,  receive notifications, and place calls. The device does not work because in order to monitor your heartbeat it flashes green and infrared lights. Both of these lights need to be absorbed by the skin to work. Solid colored tattoos absorb the green lights and reflect the red lights, which means the sensor cannot function properly.

Rest Devices Company has made their new "mimo baby" to demo their new "Smart Onsie".  On the front of the garment there are two green stripes.  These are actually respiratory sensors to keep track of the child's breathing.  At the end of the two green stripes is a small plastic turtle.  This is turtle has a few very small sensors on the inside of it.  They can keep track of many things such as: body position, activity level, and skin temperature.  Parents can keep track of their child through a mobile app on any IOS/Android devices.  Another option that is in the works is a light up mug, this however, only would show respiratory patterns.

Using wiki in class

Using Wikipedia in class should allowed more.  Even if you can't credit the source in a paper you can still use it.  It's good to find basic information and its an easy way to get new ideas for different assignments.

Spring Break

Over spring break I went out with friends.  On Monday night I went to see Fast and Furious 7.   It was a really good movie. I also had Shake Shack  for the first time.  Most of the other nights I went to the field with my friends and hung out with a lot of people.  I also got a lot of sleep which was really nice as well.

Ford is in the process of launching a car that prevents you from speeding.  The technology used for these cars is the "Intelligent Speed Limiter".  Ford says it monitors roads signs with a camera mounted on the car, and slows the car down to appropriate speed.  The setting is not mandatory though, you can shut off the speed limiter if you do not wish to use it.

Scientists are creating new contact lenses.  These contacts however are imbedded with small mirrors that reflect light. This light bounces off the mirrors no increases the perceived view of the object and helps the user see better.  These are specially made for people with age related macular degeneration or AMD.   This disease is one of the most leading diseases for becoming blind.  If the technology becomes even more advance we can see only good things in its future.

Music Zone Widget

Music on any Apple smart phone is easily accessed through the control center.  This, however, only allows a limited amount of controls for your music; fast forwarding, skipping, and pausing.  The Music Zone Widget allows you to browse through your music library, change songs, and also see what song is on deck.  Once the app is installed all you need to do to activate it is swipe down from the top of your home-screen.

A recent update to the Android Lollipop devices will allow users to activate settings using simple voice control.  The only three settings that can be toggled by voice control are wi-fi, bluetooth, and the flashlight.  A drop down will appear once the phone recognizes the voice commands.  This drop down menu shows what settings are being toggled. The voice control could also bring up shortcuts to other settings as well, such as GPS,  NFC, and Airplane modes.

Web 2.0: Multimedia Blog Posting

This year I have decided to take the web 2.0 course.  I had previously taken this class in the seventh grade.  I expected to lean the same things we had learned when I first took the class.  How to use blogger, google, and other various web applications.  This year, however, will not be the same as the first time.  Since we are older and more experienced we will be learning more in depth about new technology and how to use web applications to help with work, school, and for your own enjoyment. Check out our teachers blog here!
We work on new projects almost every week.  Most, if not all, of these projects will be graded.  We also do a technology blog posting almost every Friday.  These blog postings can be about any new technology in the world.  We prepare a blog post with information about the topic, we can also include different multimedia.  This includes pictures, links, and different informational videos.
The thing I like most about this class is how interesting some of the topics are.  Technology is one of the most relevant things in our generation.  It gives us huge platforms to express our ideas and show others our creativity.  It also can help us with future careers and school. Learning how to use the web to your advantage is very interesting.  It can only benefit us in the long run.  You can see this intro video Mr.Porfido showed us in the beginning of our course here!

Copyright Article

Things I've learned from this article,

  • All things you create or capture are copyrighted, even without filling out paperwork.
  • If you were to post a picture you took on your camera, your picture is now copyrighted as well.
  • For example, Flickr, is one of many licensed applications.
  • This means, the license could allow you to use the photo but you have to give credit to the photographer.

As you may already know, Apple has released photos and details about their new claimed "Apple Watch".  It is rumored that Apple is going to be selling an 18-Karat-Gold watch.  This means the watch could easily sell for $5,000.  Apparently Apple will be investing in a special type of safe to house these watches in store.  The Apple watch is due to release in April of 2015.
